Ok this is just an honest question i have. This thread is NOT to become a debate over who's the best player ever, homerun king, ect. I am in school as a physician and we are learning all about steroids. They say the first known steroid was created and or used in the 1920s. Seeing as Babe ruth played in the 20s whos to say he wasnt taking them? Who is really to say when the "steroids era" started? I'm just wondering why players of the 90s and beyond are known for steroids whent they have been EXTREMELY PREVELANT since the 1940s olympics...thoughts?

The use of amphetamines and the non disclosure of performance enhancing drugs prior to 1993 or so bothers me with the fact that nobody mentions those factors at all. Nolan Ryan comes to mind...........

You probably know more about this than most of us, if you've been researching it, but I thought steroid use in sports originated with weightlifters in the 1950s, which is when dianabol was first sold in the U.S. I assume that until the late 1990s, the additional bulk associated with steroids was not considered beneficial for baseball players.

the only artificial thing that Babe Ruth put in his body was from the crap in his hot dogs...

Amphetamines were all over the place for a long time. Willie Mays kept a bottle of them in his locker.
