Louisana Tech was not subject to the $5 million buyout agreement that the remainder of the Western Athletic Conference agreed to, according to documents obtained by Aggieville.
Because of this, the Bulldog program was free to leave for any conference of its choosing, and it's a stipulation that the WAC agreed to.
We knew all along that Louisiana Tech desired to be in Conference USA, WAC Commissioner Karl Benson said. We as a conference feel that geographically they belong in Conference USA and we didn't want to stand in the way of that.
It's the strongest indication yet that Louisiana Tech, long rumored to want to leave the WAC, is actively looking to join another conference. However, Benson and the WAC are looking to not only stay in existence, but become stronger as a result.
The league is going to survive, Benson told Aggieville. We're looking at all possible avenues in order to get better.
