The following email was sent to me earlier today:
Dear Bulldog Fans,
As most of you have heard, a lot has happened over the past week as it relates to the Western Athletic Conference, its membership and the future of the conference. I'd like to assure all Louisiana Tech fans and supporters of one thing that has not changed - our vision for the future and our commitment to maintain our focus on that vision and our Quest for Excellence.
Our goals and objectives are the same today as they were before Nevada and Fresno State made the decision to leave the WAC. As President Reneau has stated, conference realignments around the nation will continue to occur and we must prepare ourselves to be as strong a University and athletic program as we can be to ensure a successful future. Our progress has never been dictated by another institution or organization, but rather by the strength of our vision and the will to achieve it through the support of our alumni, fans and student body. The single most important thing we can do to prepare for a promising future is to continue with our vision and accomplish our goals for Quest for Excellence. More than anything, our future lies with this new facility and its promise of a brighter future for our University and athletic program.
The WAC and its membership committee are in the process of evaluating its current and future membership strategies. President Reneau, as a member of this committee, will certainly keep us updated as progress is made. WAC bylaws state that a conference member must give notice in writing by July 1 if it is their intention is to leave the conference. Since this deadline was not met we should have two more years to compete in the WAC with Fresno State and Nevada as members. This is important to us as it allows us two years to address our future scheduling needs, make progress toward the successful completion of our campaign and position ourselves for future opportunities.
Your support is the key. Buying season tickets and supporting the athletic program through LTAC and the Quest for Excellence campaign is the challenge our alumni and fans must meet for your University to compete with and against the elite of college athletics. Progress can already be seen around the athletics complex. In the coming weeks, we will dedicate our newly-renovated ticket office, new soccer complex and eastside fence renovation of Joe Aillet Stadium.
Our student athletes are working hard to represent you and your University with pride, passion and integrity. We look forward to seeing you on September 4 at Independence Stadium in Shreveport when Bulldog Football kicks off the Sonny Dykes era against Grambling State.
Thank you, as always, for your dedication and support of Louisiana Tech Athletics.
Go Bulldogs!
