Kovalchuk vs Kaberle

Not a poll of who is better because obviously Kovalchuk is a better and probably more valuable player. But with New Jersey and Los Angeles seemingly in both sweepstakes, who would you rather have on your team if you had to choose, a trade for Tomas Kaberle or a big Kovalchuk signing.

Reports indicate that the Kaberle deal could now be a deal for prospects (which Burke will flip elsewhere) and not for the top 6 forward and picks as before.

The Kovalchuk deal will still likely be upwards of 85-90 million total and probably 7+ per season.

So put yourself in the Devils and Kings shoes. Who would would you rather go get, Kaberle or Kovalchuk...

at first i thought it would be a whos better thread and was gonna say "wtf"...

but i think NJ will end up keeping kovy, and i think kaberle would be a decent fit in LA, even if its only for a season.

LA needs a top 6 winger, not another great offensive defensemen. Sure Kaberle would be great for them, but Kovalchuk was the perfect match.

Kaberle for Parise that deal sounds sweet to me

Wow if Kaberle is available for prospects count the Caps in, unless they get Willie Mitchell

In all honesty, I don't think either team really needs Kovy. Both are pretty well of offensively and I don't see Kovy being the difference for either one in the playoffs. New Jersey needs a d-man or two but they're so locked in on Kovy that they're distracted. They let Martin go and picked up Volchenkov, I nice defensive d-man, along with giving up a solid d-man in the Kovy deal to Atlanta...who exactly is going to move the puck for them next season? Having all these forwards is nice but when you don't have a puck mover, even with the great Marty in net, your going to spend too much time in your own zone. Lou has always come off as a cocky, over-rated GM to me who's ridden a boring system and a great goalie for too long and trying to invest this much money into Ilya is a mistake. The NHL did the team a favor.

Right now there defense consists of Volchenkov, Tallinder, Colin White, Bryce Salvador, Andy Greene, Mark Frasor and Anssi Salmela.

Now look at the offense: Elias, Rolston, Parise, Arnott, Zajac, Zubrus, Langenbrunner, Clarkson...and maybe Kovy. Anyone see how clear the difference is? Teams built like this rarely ever win. I just don't get what Lou's thinking...
