Just How Good is Sidney Crosby?

From the great William "Scotty" Bowman himself:: Video From YouTube:(link)

"He (Crosby) doesnt have the luxury of so many great linemates... the thing that made Gretzky so great was Messier, Coffey, Kurri, Anderson..."

As a Sabres fan, I watched Crosby win the 1st (and most special, really) Winter Classic when he scored on Ryan Miller in the shootout.

As a Sabres fan, I watched Crosby pretty much single-handedly finish off the last Olympics scoring in overtime on, well, Ryan Miller.

I have come to terms. I am over his diving - the whole "Slid the Kid" thing, for me, is in the past. And now I am wondering, "How good is this "kid" going to look when he finally retires?"

Haters go on and hate. Crosbyites go on and pop off.

We may not see this: Video From YouTube:(link)
, but I think we as NHL fans need to stop whining about his whining, and appreciate him for what he has emerged as:

A hockey god.

As much as it hurts a steadfast Sabres fan to admit.

Stats, Cups, and merchandise - will he eventually top the Great One? Will 87 be forever retired across the league?

He is a very good player but not even the best player in the NHL, as there are several things he doesn't do.

It pains me to admit it...I still think malkin is better :P

I consider Crosby the best in the game and I got over the whining thing years ago, but a hockey god? Really?

him and ovie change as #1 in the league for me on a daily basis. he'll never touch gretzkys level. i feel like based on the fact he has yet to play a full season he'll be viewed by many like mario. great player but will leave every1 wondering what if he was always healthy

Maybe when he scores as much as Gretzky then we can talk. A hockey god? Please. He's a very good player, not even a homer can deny that. But to say he's THE best and a hockey GOD? No.

All from Wiki:

Quote:

By his second season, he led the NHL with 120 points (36 goals, 84 assists) to capture the Art Ross Trophy, becoming the youngest player and the only teenager to win a scoring title in any major North American sports league

Quote:

That same season, Crosby won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the most valuable player as determined by the Professional Hockey Writers Association, and the Lester B. Pearson Award as the most valuable player as determined by the NHL Players Association. He is the seventh player in NHL history to have earned all three awards

Quote:

Crosby won his first Stanley Cup in 2009, becoming the youngest captain in NHL history to win the championship

Quote:

Internationally, Crosby has represented Team Canada in two World Junior Championships, winning silver in 2004 and gold in 2005. He competed for Team Canada at the 2006 IIHF World Championship and led the tournament in scoring. In the 2010 Winter Olympics, Crosby scored the game-winning goal against the United States to win the gold medal for Canada, 3–2 in overtime.

Hockey god? This stuff is beyond the careers of most anyone.

Perhaps, but assuming Crosby never plays another game where would he rank?

We can't assume his career for the next 15+ seasons. We did that with Eric Lindross, and Jaromir Jagr, and countless others.
