SI Player Poll: Most Overrated

Sports Illustrated asked 161 NHL players who they thought was the most overrated player in the league.

Some of the names on here are flat out stupid.

If Ovechkin is overrated then its the players own fault as he has won 3 Pearson/Lindsays during his career.

Phaneuf is only overrated because he plays in Toronto where every single player is Jesus.

Gomez deserves it but I don't really think anyone believes he's any good anymore.

Luongo's troubles have been documented far too many times to argue this anymore.

Mother-****ing Dany Heatley deserves his spot.

Kovalchuk is on here because of his contract.

Vinny Lecavalier is still a beast IMO. Not worth his contract but still a beast.

Jay Bouwmeester is way too quiet to be overrated.

Ryan Kesler is a Selke contender every year who chips in 30+ goals. Don't understand this at all.

Mike Komisarek. Was a Hab and a Leaf. No wonder he's on this list.

Chris Pronger is not overrated. Probably just hate from the players polled.

Jarome Iginla. Any player who said Iginla deserves to be shot. Future HOF with 500 goals is overrated these days?

Alexander Semin deserves his spot although no one really thinks of him in high regards anymore anyway.

Olli Jokinen and JovoCop are both old. Don't understand these either.

Dion Phanuef was very over-rated in Calgary too. If he were still on Calgary, he'd still be on this list.

Alex Ovechkin is over-rated because many people think he's the best player in the league still, though he's not at a PPG this season, and just hit it last year. Playing no defense and barely a PPG player is questionable to be the best in the league. Though, many like to hate because of jealousy through the media.

No one even thinks highly of Scott Gomez. Overpaid does not = over-rated. Many forget that.

Roberto Luongo is probably both under-rated, and over-rated.

Heatley deserves that spot. He's really slowed down since Ottawa.

You're right with Kovalchuk. Many forget, over-rated/overpaid are different. Kovalchuk is still a top 5 sniper IMO. He just needs to get out of NJ. He's having a bounceback year though.

Vinny's certainly slowed down. The injuries have taken too much out of him. He's still kind of young too. I do think he's a bit over-rated though.. and he's overpaid.. He's both IMO.

J-Bo is under-rated.

So? Kesler can do that, and still be considered over-rated. Some people were talking about him as a top ten player last year, which he's certainly not. I think he's a bit over-rated. Enough for this list? I don't know. The hype has slowed down quite a bit.

Nobody thinks too highly of Komisarek.

Pronger is certainly not over-rated. People hate him, that's all.

Again, back to my Kesler part for Iggy. Just because he's done that, doesn't mean he can't be over-rated. I don't think he is though.

Alexander Semin is over-rated.

Jovo is kind of over-rated, but not so much Olli Jokinen.

Pronger has never been close to overrated.

Year after year Dion is ranked the most over-rated player. How is this possible?

Heatley is the most overrated player/player I would least like on my own team.

Gomez, Ovechkin, Semin, Phaneuf, Heatley, Kovalchuk, Lecavalier, and Jokinen? These are all players who were once great and had reached a peak and now that they have struggled to reach that standard or level they were at makes them overrated? Joke

I can't believe Iginla and Pronger on this list. Two of the best players in NHL history.

No offense to Leafs fans though I expect them to agree, but no one has ever thought Komisarek is or was a good player.

Komisarek is a useful player though, but it's not as if any of us saw him as a star. When he's on he's a good shutdown dman.

Pronger's ability is certainly not overrated. The fact that he doesn't play very much is what makes people think he's overrated.
