Jerry Buss's #1 choice was to trade Shaq for Dirk Nowitzki.
Cubes wouldn't bite though, and he counter-offered with Shaq for Steve Nash [ plus fillers ].
Good thing Buss wasn't stupid enough to go for that.

If that Nash trade had the same amount of expiring contracts as the Gasol trade, maybe it would have turned out better?

thats a shame we couldnt get Dirk. Would of at least i my opinion been a much more fair trade then what we got. But then again looking at the moves we made because of the trade, i guess the end result wasnt so bad
